Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy (PT) is a related service under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and is provided to support the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students ages 3-21, who have a disability that interferes with their educational performance and ability to benefit from their education program. When the student's IEP identifies PT as a needed resource, the PT will be integrated as a member of a multidisciplinary school team. The school-based PT promotes motor development and the student's participation in everyday routines and activities that are a part of his or her school day. They collaborate with the education team to support student success in accessing the school environment and educational curriculum.

School-based physical therapists in Minnesota also provide services to children (age birth to three years old) and their families in the home when a motor delay is present or when a child has a medical diagnosis that warrants physical therapy services.
